To go off at a tangent ... is it just me, or does anyone else find Save for Web to be, well, crap? I usually just Save As ... and choose my format, certainly when saving jpgs. For some reason (as I assume it's the same conversion engine) I seem to get better results than the Save for Web dialog, using the same settings.

Morphim, don't worry about the banner (just don't do it again you useless pr***) :D .

Paul the main reason I use Save for Web is because you get a preview of the image (in multiple formats if you so wish). I just find that pretty helpful, otherwise I would have to keep checking the compressed version for pixellation and colour quality.

I quite like it myself, but as with everything in PS there is always at least a couple of ways to get the same results.

This is exactly why I use it. However, I sometimes don't undersatnd how PS works it out since a 0% quality sometimes still looks the same as a 'medium' compression. Very odd?? But I just go with the preview.

However, I think having a reasonably high screen res (1280 x 1024 - I mean this as opposed to 800 x 600) hides a lot of the artifacts that a lower rez users sees.

I understand that the previews are useful, and I do use it sometimes, especially for GIFs and when using transparency, but the results just seem to be worse for me.

When resizing jpgs for the web, I use photos from the same 5 or 6 sources, so I already know what they'll look like at certain compressions. That's why I prefer Save As ...

Paul, I recently tried saving a jpg for web use without using the Save for Web... feature and I have to say I agree with you. The results do appear to have less artefacts in them. They are far more satisfactory than the other.

Thanks for the tip. :)
