All about our work situations

I'd like to know, if I'm not being too intrusive, what people in here are doing with themselves. I'd like to know which people are making a living (either part or full-time) from design, print and/or web work. Not throwing a flyer together for a local chipshop, but real work, competing in todays marketplace. If this is you, what kind of work are you doing?

Personally, I'm full-time with our small but steady company. With happy clients and good relationships, we're making enough but currently looking for more clients and contacts.

I'm just interested. You never know who you may to ask for help or offer freelance work to as things heat up. This post may've come a little soon, as there are only a few members at present. If Morph thinks it of use, maybe he'll make it sticky for a while?

I love the fact that I now have 'the power'!

I'm doing rubbish on a work level. I'm OK at creative / design stuff but shite at selling myself. I'm not very confident about my own work or abilities. I've also had some bad luck (in my opinion ... maybe just an excuse I tell myself) with some of the ventures I gone on. I've speculated a lot for work but end up doing all the initial stuff for little or nothing and then get no more. I wonder if it's me?

I have a lot of ideas I'm really exicted about but worry about which to go for ... all the ifs and buts.

However, I truely believe that a self employed road is the way to go for long term satisfaction / wealth / happiness etc. I'm just not there yet!

I'm doing some freelance work in addition to my "real" job - mainly website design and some photography, which can be so lucrative it's frightening! All you need is the nerve to charge ridiculous prices...

I did a single portrait last year for an internal MOD brochure. 10 mins work (including printing proof and burning cd). Â£100 cash. I need to do this more often.

I work with a wedding planner/photographer who charges Â£700 to photograph a wedding. This only includes shooting, burning a cd and a set of proofs. She usually makes another Â£300+ from prints. And she's not even that good a photographer!

I am a full-time student at mo, have been doing a couple of sites one for a charity, so did it out of my own kind heart, (bloody missus) and I am currently doing another one for a little bit of cash, other than that its quiet, could do with a job and get back into the 9 till what the fucks the time ya said...

I am currently working for a national irish newspaper. I picked up a fairly serious interest in Photoshop over the years doing courses and the odd job in print and ended up on the picture desk of the newspaper. The work generally is fairly straightforward, but I sometimes get a chance to design graphics for the front cover and the inside of a sister paper which is also national.

It's a good job, because the pay is good and I get a fair amount of spare time to keep/get up to speed with web design (which at present is a hobby).

In relation to photographers, there are countless amounts of poor photographers out there making an absolute mint. I come across their work daily.

Anyway, that's what I do at the moment.

Hello all!

I'm still doing the same. I work as an In-house designer for a successful UK software company, but we're based here in the Isle of Man. Work ranges from web / magazine advertising / print / cd and kiosk interface design etc. - pretty much everything really!

I also run my own freelance company for both web and print work, but have scaled this down to just a few clients over the last year, as I want some spare time!!

I've been off the forums a lot because I have been swamped, but will try and make some effort here.

Hhmmm, I'm software engineer, I occaisionally use Dreamweaver/Flash for making support websites / training material for the software my team produces, but most of the time now I'm managing rather then doing

. Max hardly gets any use now as far as work goes - it's moved into hobby space.

Aaaanyway...

I'm coming to the end of my teacher training and in September I'll be starting a new job as a qualified (if the uni lecturers pull heads out of arses) teacher at the same school as my Sprog O_o

For the last year I've been showing kids how to design graphics and web sites properly. It's been great!

How's everyone else doing then?
