This week I've mainly been doing .... my 1st Vectors

Well, I need 3 vector cars produced for some prints I want to do.
I asked a guy over on the other forum (who's vector work is splendid) if he'd be up for doing them for me. He quoted £150 for all 3, which I think is really reasonable. However, I had this niggle that said, 'you'll probably be unhappy regardless since you've copped out and not done them yourself!'

So, I decided to bite the bullet and try to get to grips with the pen tool. I've used paths (splines) and bezier tangent handles in 3ds max but every time I've tried something in PS, I've pretty much given up straight away (3ds max has a great work flow for this; better than PS but obviously not as versatile for 2d work. I did consider doing it in Max then exporting the paths to PS

)

Anyway, two days ago I knew nothing. Today I have this. I'm quite proud although I'm sure my technique has a lot to be desired and my speed is rather poor.

They can get in line behind VAG

Both fonts were freeware originally and I'm not sure you can keep a hold on a style such as this.

Believe me, I do worry about being served a 'cease & desist' type letter from some multi billion dollar corp. suggesting I'm taking £2k from their profits.

Ahh, the capitalist dream, eh!

FYI, the San Andreas artwork is done mainly by Stephen Bliss. A friend of mine works with his brother, Rob Bliss, who's a film concept artist.

The Bliss brothers have (had?) a company selling T-shirts. Who'd have thunk it!

Did you find it hard to learn the technique or did you just need some time to learn it?

It's one of those things that you put off but, once you decide to actually knuckle down and focus on it; actually take an hour to understand how the tools work, it wasn't that bad.
