IMPORTANT - Moving Citizen Art to a new host.

Post by morphim » July 22nd, 2009, 1:04 pm

My current host seems to becoming more unstable and slow recently (over the past year) so I've decided to change hosts.

However, this obviously means moving the forum which relies on it's database.
The slight problem i have is that I can't access the new forum until this domain resolves to the new DNS, at which time this domain (and forum) become inaccessible.

So, just to warn whoever still visits here, before the end of July, I will migrate everything across. (or try to  )

What this means though it that, although the URL will still be the same, you might find you have to re-register (It's Epoxy time all over again :? )

I'm hoping that the database will export with everything intact but the new forum will be PHPBB3 (this one is currently PHPBB2) which apparently won't directly upgrade the database, due to differences in the MySQL tables.

So, please bear with me if everything goes tits up (with 110% probability)

Wish me luck.

I'll let you know when I'm about to cross the great divide :? :?

OK. After a quick surf around i think the best course of action will be to upgrade this forum to PHPBB3, get that working with all the current users / data, then export to the new install.

The problem it that there don't seem to be any easy ways to do this between different hosts.

I'll keep you posted.
