Drupal

Before anyone says it (cow) I'm still on this CMS road to hell 
Anyone had experience of Drupal?
I've installed it but the main appeal is the ability to run multi sites from one Drupal install.
I'm trying to do THIS but it's all a bit involved and I'm just a simple bottom feeder
I'm not 100% on symlinks and a few other things and I'm tired of the usual google information goose chase (my eyes / head hurts)
There seems to be the inclusion of an automated script in that link above but i have no idea what to do with it, where to put it or how to run it??
As with all these things, I know more today than i did yesterday and will probably know even more tomorrow but all these things are necessary evils.
I actually don't want to know any of this stuff, but I need to to achieve what i want.
