Hello

Post by morphim » June 23rd, 2008, 9:11 am

Good morning everyone (maybe Paul & Cow? :( )

I'm so sorry for my absence. I've had so much to do and so much on my mind I feel I've neglected my hosting duties, among other things.

Sorry about that.
I'm working on two websites and a new forum for one, as well as trying to sort out this new Citizen Art front end and all the other associated tasks.

Lots going on with little money but much time. Bummer.

How's things?
It's always a sunny day above the clouds : )

Hi Morph,

Much the same here - last week of school :D but Friday can't come soon enough. My HT's been off again, so I've been acting Head for the last 2 months again  Still, at least my salary should go up this month :D

</bipolar smilies>

We're heading south to That England on Saturday morning, so better dig out the passports and phrase book. Staying with friends at Malham for a long weekend, then heading back north for a bit. Going to Menorca for a week mid-summer with my extended family - should be good.

How about Cow?

Glad to hear you're almost breaking up (in one way or another  )

Don't know where Malham is (I'll multimap in a mo :D ) but ... and this is important ... whatever you do, don't stray from the paths!!

I've not been to Menorca but I have done Minorca. Very nice island. I hope to return one day although the natives are try to stop that happening through diplomatic channels! 8)

We went to France for 10 days during the half term just gone. Had a nice time although not much of a break.

I think we're maybe going to try and get down to Cornwall over the summer but not sure yet??

Anyway, I'll try and post a bit more often here so do check in.

You say Minorca, I say Menorca, let's call the whole thing off...

Apparently the natives call it Menorca, so that's where my spelling comes from.

In other news, I've started dabbling with Joomla. Interesting, though restrictive when you're used to DW. It's a bit like learning to drive on the opposite side of the road, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, here's waiting on the rest of the gang...

I wasn't being funny about Me(i)norca. I read 'Menorca' but thought 'Majorca' D'oh! Sorry.

Since we were talking about the same thing, I probably have more to say about it :D Have you been before? (if not, the honest thing to say is 'no'. The wise thing to say is 'yes' )

I did park our hire car in an underground car park in Mahon and got locked in. Bit hairy for 30 mins or so, since we were staying right on the other side of the island at Ciutadella.

We had a Renault Clio with 4 adults and 4 kids in. How bad was that!!
Looked like a right piece of shite when we silently left the keys through the door of the hire place  I'm sure the underside was several inches flatter, what with all the grounding out we 'witnessed'

We've never been before. Sounds like a nice island, if you avoid the big tourist resorts - we're heading for Santo Tomas, which is fairly small and quiet, a bit like my wife (except for the quiet bit).

I've heard that Mahon and Cuitadella are worth a visit, though I'll avoid the underground car parks! Anything else? We're only there for a week and I'm very lazy.

Busy trying and buying new motor to replace the (previously) trusty but aging 944. Finally getting something new enough to use my K7ODO number plate on ! :D

I'll be back...

Is it a Cortina?

Paul: re Mienorca. North coastline rather rugged and windy. South much better with lovely hidden cove beaches but many, many jelly fish when we were there.
Statue / monument on hill in middle of island similar to the one in Rio D Janero. Monestary type thing or something but worth a visit.
Mahon and Cuitadella are both nice. Mahon has the deepest natural habour in the world (I think. It was a while ago I was there and i might have this wrong).
Cuitadella is a really lovely, old colonial type town with some great buildings.
Below Mahon is Binabeca (or something like that) where there's a 'white' town. Nice beaches too.

North west of the island (somwhere, can't remember exactly) there are some old, man made caves that you might like.

If you have a car, do try to explore. Especially the south coves. We found one that was down a road that turned into a farm track which turned into a dusty path (looked like the Austaralian outback) that, after about 4 miles, opened out on the the most beautiful, secluded, white sandy cove. Perfect. This is what shagged the hire car 8)

There are also some nudist beaches there somewhere but me and my binoculars never did find them

 There's one about 500 yards from the villa.

In my defense, I didn't choose where we were going...

Does anyone remember ...

"Do you know what they're replacing the Cortina with? A Sierra. What kind of word is that, Sierra? That don't mean nothing to any English person, Sierra. Not like Cortina."

Baring in mind that Cortina, Sierra and Capri are all geographical, where the heck did escort come from? Some car manufacturers are plain old shite at choosing names.

Hey Morph, can I get a Cortina with a K plate or newer?

Of course you can. K reg was around 1972 and they made the Cortina up until 1982 so that's ten years of possibility :D

IHTH

Have you considered the Allegro or Princess?
