Apple Stuff

I posted this on the other forum but pretty much as expected - no response. Confirms my general belief that if I don't know the answer, noone over there will either. Anyway, over to Paul or Simon..... (??)

Has anyone had any experience with the Apple Time Capsule? Either model, good or bad. I'm curious and thinking about hooking one up to my MacBook as well as using it for wireless printing and possibly becoming our wireless access point too.

Any comments very much appreciated.

ps. wifey is in the US for a few days on business so we're considering buying there. Any foreseeable problems with power/cables or Apple support etc? (excluding UK plug issue)

No personal experience, but overall picture is of an easy and painless experience, though the Gigabit Ethernet seems to be clocked downwards somehow. No control over backup times either, though this is due to the Time Machine software in Leopard rather than TC. Wireless printing/access seems to be good - basically it's an Airport Extreme with an HD welded to it!

Bottom line - if you don't have Airport Extreme or a handy large wired drive free, and want wireless printing and access, it looks like a good buy.

Only issue I've heard of buying in US is support. Not sure how big this problem really is though, as I've never bought anything there, and nothing usually breaks anyway!

Thanks Paul, I knew I could rely on you! It's possibly a little late for her to buy one on this trip but she goes over (fairly) regularly so maybe next time. They are quite a bit cheaper so it may be worth a gamble on the support side of things.

I know we can come up with a similar system for less money but using it as a wireless access point, for printing, backups and as the network drive, I reckon it'll be perfect. The next thing I'll be after is the airport express for streaming music from the laptop to the stereo.

She will be keeping her eyes open for a OS X copy of Fireworks for me however, as it's half price.
